Big news for the Oklahoma Sooners! They've just secured a commitment from former Georgia Tech offensive lineman, Peyton Joseph, according to a report by On3's Pete Nakos. This is a significant move, and here's why it matters.
Joseph, who played last season for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, is now heading to Norman to work under offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh. The Sooners have been focused on revamping their offensive line, and Joseph fits the bill perfectly. He has plenty of eligibility remaining, with four years to play, as the 2025 season was his true freshman campaign.
But here's where it gets interesting: Joseph was a highly sought-after recruit coming out of high school. He was a four-star prospect from Houston County in Fort Valley, Georgia. Ranked at No. 264 overall in the 2025 cycle by the Rivals Industry Ranking, which considers all major recruiting media outlets, he was a hot commodity.
And this is the part most people miss... Multiple power conference programs were vying for Joseph's signature. The Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs, both SEC powerhouses, were in the mix. The Florida State Seminoles, under coach Mike Norvell, were also contenders, and Joseph was once committed to them. Ultimately, Georgia Tech won out, making him a key player for their team.
In other news, the Oklahoma Sooners are also bringing in a big name to coach their tight ends: former Dallas Cowboys tight end and Tennessee alum, Jason Witten, is expected to be hired for the position, as reported by Sooner Scoop's Georgia Stoia and On3's Pete Nakos. This marks Witten's first collegiate coaching role after five seasons as the head coach at Liberty Christian School in Texas.
Witten had an impressive 17-year NFL career, playing 16 seasons for the Dallas Cowboys, who drafted him in the third round of the 2003 NFL Draft. A 2012 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year, Witten was selected for 11 Pro Bowls and four All-Pro teams. He still holds multiple NFL and Dallas team records, including the league record for most receptions in a single game by a tight end (18).
What do you think of these moves by the Sooners? Will Peyton Joseph make a big impact on the offensive line? And is Jason Witten the right fit for the tight end coaching position? Share your thoughts in the comments!
