Simone recalls how her parents, both in their 80s, initially took on the role of Stephen’s primary caregivers. However, as his condition deteriorated and he became unsteady on his feet, the family turned to Strathcarron Hospice for support. The hospice’s Hospice at Home team became a lifeline, providing daily assistance with washing, dressing, and emergency care. 'They were invaluable toward the end,' Simone shared. When Stephen was admitted to the hospice, Simone admits she expected a sterile, hospital-like environment. 'Stephen was a sociable man, and I believe he made good friends during his time there,' she reflected. 'The staff didn’t just care for him—they loved him. Even after his death, their support for our family continued. We can’t thank them enough.'
In his final weeks, Stephen was determined to finish recording songs for his band, Mama Mayhem’s album 'Hangman,' alongside his bandmate John Drummond.
