Last Thursday, the United Center in Chicago experienced a rare phenomenon: condensation on the court due to unusually warm temperatures. This led to a slippery floor, causing the game to be postponed.
But here's where it gets intriguing: the humidity inside the arena was almost double the standard rate for an NBA game, and the outdoor temperature in Chicago was a balmy 55 degrees at 8 p.m. The ice rink beneath the basketball court, used for Blackhawks games, began to melt at the edges due to the heat. Arena staff attempted to salvage the game, but the moisture proved stubborn, and the game was officially rescheduled after multiple delays.
This weather-induced postponement is a rare occurrence in the NBA. The last time a regular-season game faced a similar fate was back in 2017 during a Timberwolves-Trail Blazers matchup.
The rescheduled game will now take place on January 29 at 8 p.m. ET, with the original January 30 game in Miami pushed back to January 31. Both teams, currently ranked 8th (Heat) and 10th (Bulls) in the Eastern Conference, will be eager to showcase their skills without the interference of Mother Nature.
